Who We Are

An interfaith coalition for immigrant justice in Greensboro

The world for immigrants and refugees in the U.S. has changed drastically — and not for the better. We've seen illegal ICE violence, unjust detainments, and erosions of rights for both those who are undocumented and those who have legal status. The need for the Greensboro Interfaith Immigrant Justice Coalition has never been greater.

The Coalition has become more integrated with local agencies and others meeting the complex needs of our immigrant and refugee neighbors each day. We have expanded our Board of Advisors to include several local clergy members, and our Board reinforced the Coalition's key missions.

We are building a community broader than immigrants and refugees — encompassing all those who are marginalized and treated unjustly, as well as all those who are fighting for justice. We're all in this together.

Raising Awareness

Informing our community about the realities facing immigrant and refugee neighbors, and connecting people to the work of justice in Greensboro.

Advocacy & Public Witness

Standing with our neighbors at city council meetings, marches, and public forums — making our voices heard for policies that protect human dignity. Through office visits, letters, emails, and phone calls, advocating for immigrant justice to all our legislators.

Direct Assistance

Connecting families to food, legal support, Know Your Rights resources, and essential services through our agency partners.

2026 Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway

NC African Services Coalition (NCASC) and Caribbean Crusade for Christ Worldwide (CCCW) invite our support for their Annual Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway on August 8 at Southwest High School in High Point. This event provides children and families — including many refugee and immigrant families — with the tools they need to begin the school year successfully.

Please consider making a donation or organizing a collection drive for backpacks and/or school supplies. Financial contributions are also welcome — all donations go directly to purchasing backpacks and school supplies.

This is a "one stop shop" for many of our community resources.

Coalition Joins NC Advocacy Day in Raleigh

Coalition members at NC Advocacy Day, Raleigh

Representing our Coalition, Steve joined community leaders from across North Carolina for a statewide advocacy day — sharing lived experiences, engaging legislative offices, and advocating for stronger, more welcoming communities.

At the end of the day, we celebrated a win: a fix was included in the budget to restore Medicaid eligibility for legally eligible immigrants under CHIPRA 214, fixing a problem in HB696 that would have made 27,000 pregnant women and children ineligible as of October 1.

This is a powerful example of what can happen when people come together to lift their voices. Real change is possible!

Successful World Refugee Day Hygiene Collection

World Refugee Day hygiene bag distribution, Westminster Presbyterian Church

For the second year, our Coalition successfully implemented this program. Ann Morris and her leadership team from Westminster Presbyterian Church collected supplies and packed them into cloth bags handmade by a refugee woman. Their team distributed 300 bags on World Refugee Day.

There was more demand than supply this year — next year we plan to do more promotion to grow this program even further.

Need to Know

Suppressing the Naturalized Citizen Vote

New analysis of USCIS data shows dropping naturalization rates ahead of the midterms.

"From January through March 2025, USCIS scheduled 151 initial interviews for ACRS naturalization clients. During the same period in 2026, USCIS scheduled just two initial interviews — a 99 percent decrease. These changes at USCIS are unprecedented and unwarranted."
